Zilker Botanical Garden Plan
One weekend in January, Justin and Stephanie did a weekend without kids and took off for the state capital, Austin. While there, we were looking on the maps for fun things to do in the area, and found the Zilker Botanical Garden in the middle of the city. It looked like a great option to spend a couple of hours without having to drive very far from our hotel.

Location
Zilker Botanical Garden is located at 2220 Barton Springs Road, nestled within the larger Zilker Park, Austin’s crown jewel of public green spaces. It’s operated by the City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department in collaboration with the Zilker Botanical Garden Conservancy, a non-profit organization, and the Austin Area Garden Council. Together, this public-private partnership maintains and enhances this beautiful destination for both locals and visitors alike.
Austin is easily accessible via I-35, US-290, and SH-71. Be warned, though: Austin traffic can be spicy, especially during rush hour or festival weekends.

Best Time to Go
You can enjoy the garden days year-round, but if you’re asking for the best time, spring and fall are pure magic. Wildflowers are in bloom, the weather is mild, and the koi-filled ponds shimmer under the Texas sun. The summer months are popular, though they can be hot, so arrive early or go late for a cooler experience. There are also free days scheduled throughout the year, perfect if you’re looking for a budget-friendly outing.
