Overview
Zephyr Cove is one of South Lake Tahoe’s most beloved destinations, blending the laid-back charm of a lakeside escape with endless opportunities for adventure. Whether you’re here to relax on the sandy beach, take a scenic cruise from Zephyr Cove Marina, or enjoy a lakeside cocktail at the Sunset Bar, this spot delivers the perfect balance of relaxation and excitement. Anchored by the historic Zephyr Cove Resort, you’ll find a variety of activities to fill your day—from beach activities and boating to horseback riding in the nearby hills.
The Zephyr Cove area has been a gathering place for over a century. The original Zephyr Cove Resort began in the early 1900s as a simple lakeside retreat for visitors escaping the summer heat of the valleys. Over the decades, it evolved into a full-service getaway, adding a restaurant, cabins, a marina, and recreation options. Today, it’s a lively hub for both tourists and locals, offering year-round access to Lake Tahoe’s natural beauty.

Zephyr Cove Plan
We planned our trip to Zephyr Cove mainly to take the iconic boat ride on the M.S. Dixie II, but arriving a bit early gave us the perfect chance to enjoy a peaceful stroll along the sandy beach. The calm lake views were stunning in the morning light, and wandering the shoreline was a refreshing way to start the day. Before boarding the boat, we also popped into the gift shop at Zephyr Cove Resort, where we found some great Tahoe souvenirs and snacks to take along. It was the perfect warm-up to an unforgettable cruise on the lake.
