If you’re exploring the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Silverthread Falls is a short, rewarding trail that packs a scenic punch.
Overview
Hidden just steps away from a busy parking lot and the Dingmans Falls Visitor Center, Silverthread Falls is one of those spots that feels like a hidden gem, even though it’s incredibly easy to access. Whether you’re road-tripping through the Pocono Mountains or exploring nearby Bushkill Falls or Raymondskill Falls, this quiet cascade is a peaceful stop that delivers beauty without the need for hiking boots or a long trek.
The falls lie within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, an area managed by the National Park Service and rich in geological and cultural history. Long before it became part of a national park, this region was home to Native Lenape tribes and later attracted settlers who marveled at its rugged cliffs and massive waterfalls. Today, the recreation area protects more than 70,000 acres along the Delaware River, and Silverthread Falls is one of its natural showpieces.
Silverthread Falls Plan
We planned our trip around visiting several states in the area as well as sites within the National Parks Service, exploring scenic stops throughout the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. While mapping out the drive, we noticed Silverthread Falls was just off the road near Dingmans Falls Visitor Center, and decided to check it out. It turned out to be one of the easiest and most beautiful surprises of the day—just a few steps from the parking lot and well worth the quick stop.

Getting There
Location
Silverthread Falls is located right at the end of Dingmans Falls Road in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania. You’ll find the Dingmans Falls Visitor Center here, along with a large parking lot. From the parking area, the trail to Silverthread Falls is mere steps away and clearly marked, making it one of the easiest waterfalls to find in the park.
Best Time to Go
Spring through early fall is the best time to visit Silverthread Falls. In spring, snowmelt and rain swell the flow of water, making it especially striking. Summer is lush and green, while fall brings a kaleidoscope of colors to the surrounding forest. Arriving early in the day or later in the afternoon often means fewer people, quieter surroundings, and better lighting for photos.

Who Can Go?
Everyone! The short walk to the falls is along an accessible boardwalk, making it suitable for visitors of all ages and abilities. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome, and service dogs are allowed. It’s a great stop for families, seniors, and anyone looking for a peaceful nature moment without a strenuous hike.
What You'll See
Silverthread Falls is a graceful ribbon of water that drops roughly 80 feet in a narrow chute, framed by moss-covered rock walls. A viewing platform near the base allows for a head-on look at the falls as they spill into a quiet pool. While the falls themselves are narrow, they’re also tall, making this one of the tallest waterfalls in the region. You’ll also see surrounding ferns, hemlocks, and the serene forest that characterizes much of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
Just a few steps farther along the Dingmans Falls Trail, you’ll reach the even more dramatic Dingmans Falls, which plunges 130 feet into Dingmans Creek. That waterfall also has a viewing platform at its base and a staircase leading to the top of Dingmans Falls.
