Schwabacher Landing Plan
As we were driving through Grand Teton, listening to the GuideAlong app, it talked about Schwabacher Landing as a great place to get a view of the Teton Range. As soon as it said the name, we recognized it as a place others had told us about. We weren’t originally planning to go to the area, but made a detour when we realized we were so close.
Getting There
Location
Grand Teton National Park is one of two national parks in the northwest corner of Wyoming. It is just south of Yellowstone National Park and north of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The closest airport is in Jackson Hole (JAC). We flew into Jackson Hole but stayed just over the mountain in Driggs, Idaho on our first trip to the park and in Victor, Idaho on our second trip to the park.
Best Time to Go
The best times to go to Grand Teton National Park are late spring-early summer in May and June or in the early fall months of September and October. You don’t have the heat or crowds that summer break brings, but you aren’t snowed in, either.

Who Can Go?
The small hike from the parking area to Schwabachers Landing is an easy dirt path at the end of the road. Schwabacher Landing Road is a gravel road. As long as you can make it down the gravel road to the small parking lot and along the dirt road to the viewing area, you can take in these great views of the Tetons.
What You'll See
The stillness of the water often creates mirror-like reflections of the rugged Tetons, making it a prime spot for landscape photographers especially during sunrise and sunset when the light hits the mountains just right, creating breathtaking reflections in the water.
This is a great place for nature photography from the view of the Tetons to the wildlife and beaver dams in the river.

What to Bring & Wear
Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a camera. While it’s a small path with easy access, it still helps to have good shoes for walking. No matter where you are in a national park, you should always have water with you. And, of course, don’t forget your camera to get those great shots of the Teton Mountains rising over the still water in the series of beaver ponds.
Where to Go
Schwabacher Landing is located along the banks of the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. It is located 4 miles north of Moose Junction on the main highway. As you’re driving along I-89, you’ll see a small wooden sign on the left hand of the road. Turn left of the main road and follow the dirt path down to the parking lot.
From the parking area, take a short walk north along a small channel of the Snake River about 350 yards (320 m) to a large beaver dam.
How Long Does it Take?
We spent about 30 minutes here. Between the short walk to the viewing area, exploring there just a little bit, and taking all the photos we wanted, we needed that time. We went in the late afternoon, but if you can make it in the early mornings for sunrise or evening for sunset you may want a little more time.
Cost
The only fee you’ll pay for my favorite spot in Grand Teton is the entrance fee into the park. A private vehicle costs $35 and the parking permit is valid for 7 days from the date of purchase.
