Overview

Sawmill Run Overlook is one of the many scenic overlooks that make Skyline Drive one of America’s most beautiful national park drives. While it may not be as famous as some of Shenandoah National Park’s larger viewpoints, it offers visitors another opportunity to enjoy panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, forest-covered ridges, and the peaceful landscapes that define this incredible park. If you’re driving the length of Skyline Drive or simply exploring a portion of Shenandoah National Park, this roadside scenic overlook is well worth adding to your itinerary. It requires almost no effort to enjoy the views, making it an excellent stop for families, photographers, and anyone wanting to experience the beauty of Virginia’s mountains.

Skyline Drive was constructed during the 1930s as Shenandoah National Park was being established, creating one continuous scenic roadway that stretches for more than 100 miles through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Along the drive, dozens of overlooks were strategically placed to showcase the park’s diverse scenery from different elevations and perspectives. Sawmill Run Overlook continues that tradition by providing visitors with an easily accessible place to safely pull off the road, appreciate the surrounding landscape, observe wildlife, and experience one of the many unforgettable mountain vistas that make Shenandoah National Park such a popular destination.
