What Makes Dingmans Falls a Great Hike?
Dingmans Falls Trail is a great hike that is the perfect blend of accessibility, natural beauty, and rewarding views — all packed into a short, easy walk. You don’t have to be an experienced hiker to enjoy it, thanks to the well-maintained boardwalk, gentle terrain, and short distance. Yet it still delivers big payoffs, like two stunning waterfalls — including one of the tallest in Pennsylvania — and the chance to immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere of rhododendron-lined woods and shaded creekside scenery. It’s also incredibly family-friendly and wheelchair accessible, making it a rare trail that nearly everyone can experience and enjoy.
Once we reached the end of the boardwalk, we, of course, had to climb the stairs to the top. It was a bit of a climb, but the views from the top were totally worth it. The boys were all very proud of themselves for making it to the top!
Scenery on the Dingmans Falls
Start of the Trail
The trail starts in a tranquil wooded setting alongside Dingmans Creek, with the gentle burble of water and shade from towering trees immediately setting the mood. Soon after you begin, you’ll be greeted by Silverthread Falls, a tall, ribbon-thin waterfall cascading down a rock face framed by moss and greenery. It’s one of the prettiest moments of the walk.
On the Trail
As you continue on the accessible boardwalk trail, the scenery transitions into a serene forest filled with ferns, rhododendrons, and damp earth that feels cool and quiet even on warmer days. The boardwalk occasionally passes over small streams and swampy areas, allowing you to see native plants and the occasional frog or bird along the way.
End of the Trail
The final stretch opens up to the majestic Dingmans Falls, plunging 130 feet, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in Pennsylvania. You can view it from a wide, railed platform at the base of Dingmans Falls, which is perfect for photos or just taking in the power and mist of the cascade. For those wanting a different view, a staircase climbs to the top of Dingmans Falls, where you can peer down from the top of the falls for a whole new perspective.
