Bridalveil Falls Trail Basics

Under 1 Mile
Out-and-Back Trail
80 Feet
Duration: Under 1 Hour
The trail takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the viewing platform. It may take longer if you decide to scramble up the rocks to the base of the falls. We did, and it took us about one and a half hours to play in the creek bed, go to the end of the “official” trail, scramble to the base of the fall, take some photos, enjoy the view from there, climb back down, and walk back to the parking area.
Distance: Under 1 Mile
The trail is a short walk, about 0.5 miles round trip, making it accessible for nearly all visitors.
Type: Out-and-Back Trail
The Bridalveil Falls Trail is a paved, out-and-back trail—making it very accessible and easy to navigate. It’s a short walk on slightly inclined terrain, perfect for visitors of all ages and abilities looking for an easy hike with a rewarding view at the end.
Elevation Change: 80 Feet
It’s a paved trail with minimal elevation gain—roughly 80 feet—making the hike comfortable and accessible for nearly everyone, including families with young children and visitors using wheelchairs or strollers.
Season: Summer
Early summer is the best time to visit for peak flow, when Bridalveil Fall is at its most powerful and spectacular. However, the trail is open year-round, with the waterfall visible in all seasons, though flow diminishes in late summer and the rest of the year.
Time of Day: Early Morning or Late Afternoon
For the best light and a less crowded experience, visit in the early morning or late afternoon, when the characteristic light bathes the falls and valley floor in warm hues. On summer weekends, expect a lot of turnover and some traffic jams near the Bridalveil Falls parking lot and along the side of the road.
Amount of Shade: Minimal
There’s little shade on the trail, so bring sun protection during sunny days. The viewing platform does not have any cover, and if you decide to scramble up the rocks, you won’t have any shade there, either.
Difficulty: Easy
This is one of Yosemite’s easy hikes, perfect for families or anyone looking for a gentle stroll. The elevation gain is modest, and the trail is mostly flat, though some sections can be slick when wet or during peak runoff.
What Makes Bridalveill Falls Trail a Great Hike?
What makes this trail especially memorable is that, beyond the paved path, adventurous hikers can carefully scramble up the rocks to get even closer to the base of the waterfall, feeling the full power of the cascading water just within arm’s reach. However, be cautious—the mist from the waterfall can cause slick conditions, especially when wet from the waterfall’s mist, so sturdy footwear and careful footing are a must to avoid slips or falls.
