Most visitors spend about 30 to 45 minutes on this roundtrip hike. That’s enough time to enjoy the wooden boardwalk, read the bulletin board and interpretive signs, and take in the views from both the lower deck and nearby overlooks.

Approximately 0.5 miles (about a quarter mile each way), making it ideal for younger children or anyone looking for a short walk with maximum scenery.

Out-and-back hike trail with a mix of wooden boardwalk and natural dirt paths. The boardwalk protects the fragile ecosystem along Brandywine Creek and the edge of the gorge.

Minimal elevation gain overall, though there are about 80 steps and uneven sections as you approach the lower viewing deck.

Spring and fall are the most popular, with strong water flow and vibrant foliage. Summer months offer shaded hiking, while winter brings icy conditions and frozen formations around the falls.

Visit early to beat peak times. Late afternoon offers softer light for photos of the cascading water and Berea sandstone cliffs.

Mostly shaded thanks to dense forest canopy, making it great for warm-weather hiking

While it’s an easy, short hike, stairs and slick surfaces mean sturdy shoes are recommended.

What Makes Brandywine Falls Lower Viewpoint a Great Hike?

The highlight is the stunning 60-foot Brandywine Falls, the tallest waterfall in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. From the lower platform, you get a closer look at the powerful cascading water as it drops over layered shale and Berea sandstone into the gorge carved by Brandywine Creek.

Unlike the upper observation deck at the top of the falls, the lower viewing platform brings you closer to the base, where you can hear the roar of the water and feel the cool mist. This perspective makes it one of the most immersive waterfall experiences in Northeast Ohio.
