Explore the Boston Mills Visitor Center, often called the park’s “front door”, and your one-stop resource for trails, waterfalls, wildlife, and family-friendly adventures in one of the most accessible parks in the United States.
Overview
Nestled along Riverview Road near the intersection of Boston Mills Road, the new Boston Mills Visitor Center serves as the first centralized location to orient new visitors to the park. Operated by the National Park Service, this main visitor center building blends modern design with the historic feel of the Village of Boston, creating a welcoming hub for both first-time and returning park visitors.
The new visitor center was created as part of a complete rehabilitation of several historic buildings, transforming the Boston area into a cohesive and engaging destination. Today, the site includes the main building, smaller buildings, an outdoor pavilion, and nearby access to the Boston Mill Station of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
Inside, the new center offers a geographic overview of the park along with indoor exhibits designed for the communication of information about the valley’s ecosystems, history, and natural resources. One standout feature is the tactile tabletop model of the valley, which helps visitors visualize the landscape and plan their route.
Whether you’re here for hiking, biking, or sightseeing, this great place acts as a front door to everything the park has to offer.
Boston Mills Visitor Center Plan
To make the most of your visit to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the visitor center serves as a helpful starting point for maps, trail information, seasonal highlights, exhibits, and personalized recommendations. During our visit, however, the government shutdown prevented us from entering the building itself. Even so, we still stopped by the area and were able to explore the outdoor information displays and gather useful details about nearby trails, scenic overlooks, waterfalls, and the historic Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail before continuing our adventure through the park.

What you bring depends on how much of the park you plan to explore after visiting the center. Comfortable walking or hiking shoes are highly recommended, especially if you plan to explore nearby trails like the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Dress in layers since temperatures can change throughout the day, particularly during spring and fall.
