The Houston Texans joined the NFL as an expansion team in 2002 and quickly became one of Houston’s favorite sports teams. They play all home games at Reliant Stadium, one of the largest and most recognizable stadiums in Texas. Throughout the football season, thousands of fans gather to cheer on the Texans while enjoying one of the country’s best game day atmospheres. Today, attending a Houston Texans game has become a popular experience for both locals and visitors exploring Houston.

Attending a Houston Texans Game Plan

Our first Houston Texans game was actually a preseason game with one of Justin’s work groups. We were lucky enough to sit in the club seating area, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The club level included complimentary snacks and drinks, a private seating section with excellent views of the field, and exclusive restrooms that made everything much more convenient than the general concourse. Even though it was a preseason game, the stadium was full of excitement, and getting to enjoy premium seating made it a memorable experience that we still talk about today.

Getting There

Location

Houston is located in southeast Texas and is the fourth-largest city in the United States. Known for its professional sports teams, world-class museums, incredible restaurants, and diverse culture, Houston offers plenty to do before or after a Texans game. Reliant Stadium sits just south of downtown near the Texas Medical Center, making it easy to combine game day with visits to Hermann Park, the Houston Zoo, the Museum District, or other popular Houston attractions. Both George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport provide convenient access for visitors traveling from out of town.

Best Time to Go

The best time to attend a Houston Texans game is during the NFL season, which runs from late summer through early winter. September through November often provides the most comfortable weather for exploring Houston before or after the game. Preseason games are also a great option if you’re looking for lower ticket prices while still enjoying the complete game day atmosphere.

What to Bring & Wear

Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing in Texans colors if you’d like to support the home team. Be sure to bring your digital tickets, photo ID, portable phone charger, sunglasses for outdoor tailgating, and a stadium-approved clear bag. If you’re attending with younger children, ear protection can also be helpful during especially loud moments.

Where to Go

Head to Reliant Stadium, located just south of downtown Houston. If you’re driving, purchase parking in advance and arrive early to enjoy the famous Houston Texans tailgating experience. Visitors can also take Houston’s METRORail directly to Reliant Park, making public transportation one of the easiest ways to avoid traffic on game day. Plan extra time for security screening, finding your seats, and exploring the stadium before kickoff.

How Long Does it Take?

Plan to spend about four to six hours for the complete experience. Most NFL games last around three hours, but arriving early for tailgating, security, pregame activities, and staying afterward to exit the parking lots can easily make it a half-day activity.
